Introduction

tl_files/sites/radon/radon.jpgRadon is a colourless, odourless, radioactive gas released from uranium-laden soil. It concentrates in basements and sometimes travels to upper living areas. The exposure to Radon is one of the most significant radiation hazards to the Canadian population. Prolonged exposure to Radon, even at low concentrations, is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking, and the primary cause of lung cancer among people who have never smoked.

The only way to find out if there are high Radon levels in your house is to test for it. Acadia University offers free high-precision testing to all Wolfville residents. Our goal is to make Wolfville radon-safe by increasing public awareness of radon-related health risks as well as promoting testing and action aimed at reducing exposure if necessary.
